A Twitter executive who took court action over Elon Musk's "hardcore" deadline has left the company. Sinead McSweeney, who was Twitter's public policy VP, left her role on Thursday, Reuters reported. The latest Twitter layoffs, which began on Wednesday, affected half of Twitter's public policy team, according to messages seen by Insider's Kali Hays. In November, McSweeney secured a temporary injunction from an Irish court to keep her job after she failed to respond to Elon Musk's "hardcore" ultimatum. Earlier this month Twitter told an Irish court it had reinstated McSweeney as public policy VP.
Twitter exec Sinéad McSweeney said she was effectively dismissed for failing to respond to Elon Musk's "hardcore" ultimatum. The company told an Irish court it has reinstated McSweeney as its global VP for public policy. McSweeney said she didn't respond to the email due to confusion around her contract, The Irish Times reported. McSweeney said she didn't respond because of confusion related to her contract of employment, The Irish Times reported. Lawyers for both Twitter and McSweeney didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment on whether McSweeney had regained access.
A Twitter exec said she worked more than 75 hours a week since Elon Musk took over, per Irish Times. She said Musk was leading Twitter "in an unorthodox manner" and giving staff "mixed messages." Sinead McSweeney said in a statement to a High Court in Ireland that her working hours soared to more than 75 in a week since the billionaire took over. The vice-president, who has worked at Twitter for more than a decade, said she regularly works more than 40 hours per week as required by her employment contract. Musk has given staff "mixed messages" and is leading the organization "in an unorthodox manner," McSweeney said, according to the report.
Sinead McSweeney didn't resign but was locked out from company systems, the Irish Times reported. McSweeney said she was "unable to work" or get into the Dublin office and had to seek an injunction. A High Court judge granted McSweeney a temporary injunction on Friday to stop Twitter from terminating her contract and applying Musk's conditions from the ultimatum email to her employment status. The Twitter executive was left humiliated and upset after being locked out of Twitter's systems, email and the Dublin office. Lawyers representing McSweeney wrote to Twitter, which accepted that she didn't plan to resign, according to the report.
Twitter's public policy VP had a phone call about job cuts with Elon Musk, the Irish Times reported. Sinead McSweeney said in a court statement that Musk said he "didn't want assholes" at Twitter. She said Musk told her fired staff could be reinstated if they're "not negative" or "excellent". McSweeney was told by Musk that fired staff who were "excellent" should be reinstated, per the report, as long as they are "not negative" and perform in a "critical role." The executive, who also leads the company's philanthropic efforts globally, was "temporarily reassured" by Musk's comments but learned two days later that the public policy team would be reduced by a fifth, according to the Irish Times report.
DUBLIN, Nov 22 (Reuters) - European Union justice chief Didier Reynders will meet executives from Twitter and Meta (META.O) at their European headquarters in Dublin this week, the Irish Times quoted the commissioner as saying on Tuesday. Following recent layoffs at the two companies, the newspaper quoted Reynders as saying that he was struck by "some decisions to fire people engaged in discussion with the commission" on new regulations introduced in Brussels. "It's quite strange, at the moment where there are more and more obligations and necessity to put into force," Reynders, who will be in Dublin on Thursday to speak to lawmakers, said in an interview with the newspaper. "It's too early to say that there is a real problem, but it is logical that we have some concerns, because of the size of the decisions taken – certainly in Twitter, but also in Meta and maybe others." Gold flat as investors seek direction from U.S. inflation data

Gold prices were listless on Tuesday as investors held to the sidelines ahead of key U.S. inflation figures, which are likely to influence the Federal Reserve's rate-hike narrative. Spot gold was flat at $1,675.29 per ounce, as of 0034 GMT. Bullion prices hit a three-week peak in the previous session, buoyed by a weaker U.S. dollar. Gold is considered a hedge against inflation, but rising interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. The European Central Bank must not stop raising interest rates until underlying inflation has clearly peaked, but it may slow the pace of hikes once rates hit a level that starts to restrict growth, France's central bank chief told the Irish Times.
FRANKFURT, Nov 7 (Reuters) - The European Central Bank must not stop raising interest rates until underlying inflation has clearly peaked, but it may slow the pace of hikes once rates hit a level that starts to restrict growth, France's central bank chief told the Irish Times. The ECB has increased rates by a combined 200 basis points to 1.5% in just three months, its fastest pace of hikes on record. "As long as underlying inflation has not clearly peaked, we shouldn't stop on rates," the newspaper quoted French central bank governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau as saying on Monday. Rapid rate hikes have, however, put the ECB close to the so-called neutral rate, an undefined mark seen somewhere between 1.5% and 2%, where the central bank for the 19 countries using the euro is neither stimulating nor slowing growth. Markets now expect a 50 basis point rate hike in December after back-to-back 75 basis point moves, to be followed by another 50 basis point increase in February.
